The Burger Mystery
Grab yourself a cup of tea and cuddle up with your favorite ultra-soft blanket. I have a story to tell you. Shortly after Mathew LeBlanc died, I went on a hunt to gather all of the art Matt had created. One of my favorite pieces was a wooden cheeseburger he created in a college art class. Matt loved that burger, as did I. He often displayed it at the various restaurants where he worked and it eventually ended up on a shelf in his living room. We searched high and low for that beloved burger after Matt passed and couldn't find it anywhere. I honestly thought that maybe Matt had sold it or given it away. He was notorious for giving away pieces of his art. On August 25th, which would have been Matt's 26th birthday, Lynn and Mike LeBlanc chose to honor Matt by having dinner at one of his favorite local haunts in the Houston area, Molly's Pub--Tomball. Matt's Dad, Mike, noticed a wooden burger on the bar and walked up to take a closer look. It was, indeed, Matt's beloved burger. Mike asked the lady behind the bar about the burger and she told him a lovely story. She said she was working one night when a young man came in, set the burger on the bar and said "I want you to have this." Mike showed the lady a photo of Matt and she enthusiastically said "that's him!" Mike explained that was his son who had died tragically of an overdose. She graciously offered to let Mike have the burger, but he declined. (When I first heard the story, I wanted to have it too!). Matt chose to share his art with world. He was kind and generous. His legend lives on and is on display in the strangest places. That's the way he would have wanted it. If you happen to find yourself in Tomball, TX, stop by, have a burger and think of Matt.
